About the Log Cabin Archives

Our Archives are located in the Centennial Building,

next to the Log Cabin Museum.

The Archives works to collect, preserve, and make accessible, the documentary heritage of Central Saanich and the broader Saanich Peninsula, in partnership with other area Archives. Our holdings include photographs, correspondence, family genealogies, maps, ledgers, reference material, and more.

Visitors and researchers are welcome to view these holdings in

the Reference Room, and to browse the library shelves which are

full of history books on a variety of subjects on local, BC,

and Canadian history.

There are volunteers and an archivist available to assist with your enquiries. Some documents may be copied, for a small materials fee.

The Archives are owned and operated by the Saanich Pioneer Society, a registered charity.

The Archives are open

Mondays 9am-2pm

(except Statutory holidays)

We encourage enquiries by e-mail, phone, and in-person during our open hours; advance bookings are also appreciated.

Please note that food, drinks, and pens are not permitted in the Archives, but researchers are welcome to use cameras - no flash.

We are accessible, with a short ramp up to the door.

We gratefully accept donations of historical material relating to the history of Central Saanich and the broader Saanich Peninsula: photographs

and albums; correspondence; diaries and other family documents;

maps and plans; property records; and records of

local businesses and organisations.

*Please contact us in advance to discuss your items and how

they might fit within our collection.

Are you a teacher, homeschooler, or local organisation interested in Archives? We welcome group visits and offer virtual and in-person presentations and discussions about what archives are; the work of an archivist; how to use primary sources and conduct research; an orientation to the Archives, and more. Please contact us for further details and arrangements.

We respectfully acknowledge that the land on which the Museum and Archives are situated, is within the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ people, including SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout) and W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip) First Nations.

We continue to cherish the family relationships with the Tsawout people, built over generations.
