3 Museum Displays

this month!

Saturdays in May   1-4pm

LCM - May displays.png

International Firefighters Day was on May 4th, but we’re celebrating firefighters all month long!

In partnership with Central Saanich Fire Dept, Central Saanich Volunteer FireFighters Association, and Central Saanich FireFighters IAFF4428, we are happy to showcase a Central Saanich Fire display at the Log Cabin Museum.

From photos to stories to mementos, and so much more! Bring your junior firefighters and firefighting aficionados to see what we’ve borrowed from the Central Saanich Fire Museum!

We're thrilled to welcome descendants of the Simpson clan, as they gather to celebrate what would be the 200th birthday of Adelaide Simpson!

For the Simpson Family Reunion, we've got an exhibit that includes photos, family tree(s), service memorabilia, family bibles, Norman Morrison passenger list, and so much more.

You too can view some of their family heirlooms, as they are our 'Featured Family' for the

month of May.

In honour of the mothers here at the Museum, and mothers everywhere, we're showing off some of our extensive teacup collection.

Come enjoy the different styles, and see if you have similar in your own collections.

Please bear with us, and
check back later in the month!

Our next Talk & Tea is

"Our Hospitals: Past Present and Future"

with Dr Ambrose Marsh,

Fundraising Campaign Chair,

Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation

Do you remember Resthaven Hospital? Designed by Samuel McClure, it was built on Sheep Island in Tsehum Harbour, with a bridge to connect it to Sidney. Resthaven served as a military hospital until it was bought by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, when it was run as an Adventist health institution from 1921 to 1978.

The Saanich Peninsula Hospital opened its doors on February 8th, 1974. Since then, SPH has provided ambulatory, diagnostic and surgical services, maternity, emergency, inpatient, palliative, and long-term care

to community residents.

Dr Marsh will provide us a look back, and a look forward,

to our Saanich Peninsula hospitals!

Join us on Sunday April 27th, at 2pm, in the Log Cabin Museum.

(one block north of the Prairie Inn, Saanichton)

The public is welcome: $10 at door, $7 for members.

Tea will be served after the talk.

International Children's Book Day is on April 2nd; a date chosen

to honor the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen, the famous

Danish author of many beloved children's stories.

World Book Day is on April 23nd; created by UNESCO, it's a global celebration of books and the joy of reading, celebrated in over 100 countries.

Here at the Log Cabin Museum, we have books!

Old, new, reference, fiction, Indigenous, children's, history,

romance (!), spooky, religious landmarks, Black history in BC, cookbooks, knitting, local, BC, and Canadian...and more!

Come visit us on Saturdays during April, to see what our

collection looks like. Bring along your favourite book if you like,

and we'll add it to a list that we'll share.
